I provided a case study which i think is similar to my preliminary concept; the "Tower of wind" design by Toyo Ito, built in 1986 near the central railway station in Yokohama, Japan. This case for me has a large lesson, the project was not a new construction, but transformation of an existing reinforced concrete tower. Not to undermine the premise under to give old buildings a new look, and combine the function of the original old buildings at the same time, the use of new technology so that there is no characteristic appearance of the original into a new local landmark.
Here is the link to my analysis:
Toyo Ito_1986 Tower of Wind
As I selected the project, the existing facade of Faculty of Architecture, there is no particular impression on people, while in the interior space, there are also some problems of the physical environment, such as sunlight, temperature and ventilation, etc. Therefore, I hope be able to address these environmental issues, also can give the building a distinctive appearance. After all, this is the Faculty of Architecture,it should be something different, something interesting.
Hi Chang,
回覆刪除as discussed last monday the toyo Ito Tower of wind is an interesting case study but the facade problem is a very different one from what you are proposing, the concrete tower is not inhabitated by people and also the addition made the tower a lot bigger by adding a lot of thickness to the facade, all things you probably dont want to do in the architecture building, but it is a start and an inspiration. Also look at the kunsthaus in graz, the realisties united office was respondsible for adding an interactive facade to the skin and they also developed some other interesting projects with respect to controlled lighting in existing buildings.
